The primordial club of this SuperCoppa League was the then Genoa Cricket and Athletic Club. Now the club is popularly known as Genoa Cricket and Football Club.

In the beginning, separate leagues were conducted for foreigners and the Italians, but later in the year 1897, it pooled to become a single league. The Italian Football Federation was set up in the year 1898 with its base at Turin. After the formation of the football federation, four more clubs joined Genoa. Other squads preferred to stay out of the federation.

The primary league was conducted in Torino, on the eighth of May, 1898. Genoa won the league. The first force of the Italian Football was Genoa. They won the league for the year 1899, and from 1900-1904, they were awarded the winners for four successful years.

During the season 1899-1900, Juventus FBC and Milan CFBC mustered into the league. In the year 1905, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) joined with Federation International de Football Association popularly called as FIFA. In the same year, the championship was restructured to form a league.

During the end of World War I, many smaller clubs joined the league; this was mainly because the craze for football among people became more and more day by day. In the year 1921, another small affiliation was formed to compete with the Italian Football Federation. The prime reason for this secondary association was due to the conflict of ideas between the minor and major teams regarding the league structuring.

Therefore, during 1922 there were two champions in Italy, one of the champions was US Novese and the other US Pro Vercelli. After the championship, both these champions merged. And one main National League was formed in the year 1929 with eighteen clubs in the league. After the formation of the National League, Internazionale emerged as winners in the year 1930. They also won the world cup for the years 1934 and 38.

Later after the end of World War II, again the league was divided into two, based on the south-north divisions. Posts the war, Torino were the first champions.
